SHOULD YOU INVEST IN THE ORDINARY?

I look at whether the no-frills skincare brand is really worth it…

I’m sure you’ve heard of The Ordinary. It’s one of the hottest skincare brands around, flying off the shelves of any stockist and a regular in any skincare enthusiast’s (including Kim K’s)  bathroom cabinet. But what makes it all the more appealing is its no-frills back-to-basics approach. Using a diverse range of vitamins, retinoids, acids, hydrators and oils the brand seems to have concocted everything you never knew your skin needed – at extremely affordable prices. And by affordable, I mean you can get one of their serums for $16. What’s more the brand is  vegan friendly, cruelty free and also free of parabens, sulphates, and mineral oil. Its packaging is minimalist and matter-of-fact and the only downside is their scientific labels that can be slightly confusing if you don’t know what you’re looking for. That said, once you read up on what you need it’s not hard to work out. So with that in mind, here’s a breakdown of the top five products you should invest in.

1. For Aging: Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion
A favourite of Kim Kardashian West this one works to accelerate skin cell turnover to reveal healtier skin as well as brightening dark spots, pigmentation and smoothing texture.

2. For Dehydrated Skin: Buffet serum
Perhaps this is one of their most well-known serums which does a bit of everything, but is specifically suited to dehydrated skin which should result in a more youthful complexion.

3. For Dull Skin: Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% Solution (Vitamin C)
If you’re not using some sort of vitamin C daily, then it’s time to get onboard. This water-free formula gives fast results helping with not just dullness, but dryness, fine lines, dark spots and an uneven texture.

4. For Exfoliation: Lactic Acid 10% + HA
This high-strength serum uses a mix of lactic and hyaluronic acids to give a mild exfoliation which results in brighter, plumper skin. What’s more it uses purified Tasmanian pepperberry, an ingredient known to reduce the signs of inflammation, making it gentle on sensitive skin.

5. For Congested Skin: Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
Another of their best sellers, and it’s no wonder. Working to balance congested and acne-prone skin, the mix of Niacinamide and zinc works to reduce bacteria, regulate oil production which all helps to calm break outs. And if that hasn’t sold it to you, just take a look at the price!!!!

To make it even more worth your while, skincare boutique Ines Beauty is now stocking the brand in New Zealand, so it’s even easier to get your hands on.
