The Ultimate Mother’s Day Wish List

Let’s not beat around the bush here… send this list to your partner asap, or better yet, just treat yo’self!

Under $400

The Not So Fluffy Facial: While many prefer to opt for a light and fluffy facial that is going to be relaxing, I always go for one that is going to see results. And nothing gives better results to ageing skin than About Face’s Laser Facial. I won’t lie though, it’s not the most comfortable treatment. In fact it uses their Clear & Brilliant laser, which can be likened to a hot rubber band being flicked over your skin. But by god, it’s worth it. After about a week your skin will be radiant, glowing, and well, brilliant looking. $399 (or if you’re feeling really generous splurge for a course of four Clear + Brilliant treatments for $1,500.)

Under $300

The Staycation At The Grande: Call me crazy, but to me the best possible mother’s day present for a over-worked mum is some uninterrupted alone time. And what better way than having a staycation. Order room service, have a in-house beauty treatment, or just sit on the bed and watch Netflix until it asks “are you still watching?’ Prices vary depending on dates, but in June you can have a night at SkyCity Grand Hotel for $287.

The  Earrings: They say diamonds are a girls best friend, but hey, most of us are on a budget so small fresh water pearls will have to do. It may or may not interest you to know that mum-to-be and PM Jacinda Ardern wore the larger pair of these in gold to her recent royal engagement. Medowlark Vita Drop Earrings Small, $269.

Under $200

The Non-Mumsy Slippers: Some may look a slippers as a bit of a dud present, but not me. Especially when they’re super chic calf-skin mules from Five Star Slippers by Minnie Cooper.  They’re the type of present you may not buy yourself, but you’ll be grateful when someone else does. $169.

The Massage: As soon as you enter the tranquil space of East Day Spa you know you’re in for something special. While any of their massages are worth raving about, their Balinese massage combines acupressure and gentle to medium pressure strokes for 90 minutes of pure bliss. $125.

The Bag: Everyone assumes a mum bag needs to be big. But if you’re going out with the buggy you really just need a little something to sling over your shoulder while you put the rest of the baby paraphernalia under the buggy. That’s why I love the Status Anxiety Plunder bag, which is a good size to stick your phone, keys and cards (and maybe even a toy or two!) $189.

Under $150

The Ultimate Lip Balm: It’s called ‘The Lip Balm’ for a reason, because it’s seriously the best on the market. It’s rich, makes your lips smooth and has this almost undetectable trace of mint. Trouble is it’s a little on the pricey side. But if you do invest, it’ll be worth it and last you a long time. La Mer The Lip Balm, $120

The Fragrance: My pick for mothers day would be something from Jo Malone’s English Fields offering. Try the Primrose and Rye Cologne which is said to evoke the feelings of long summer days (perfect, when we’re right at the brink of winter in New Zealand, no?) With a blend of primrose, corn, mimosa (one of my ultimate favourite scents) rye, and vanilla it’s particularly moreish. $116 for 30ml.

Under $100

The High Tea For Two: A mix of savoury and sweet with some customary tea (or coffee). And when I say two, I don’t mean to take the little one. Call up your bestie and make a break for it.  Bluebells Cakery, $80 (*$40 per person.)

The Pedi/Polish Plus Extra: You’ll be hard pressed to find a better environment for a spa treatment than Spring Spa. Try their ‘Perfectly Polished’ exclusive mother’s day treat which consists of a 30 minute coconut sugar back scrub and relaxing back massage, as well as a 15 minute file and paint for hands or feet. $80.

Under $50

The Blast From The Tropics: In lieu of an actual trip to Fiji (which is also a perfectly acceptable Mother’s Day gift) this Pure Fiji Milk Shower Gel in Coconut Lime Blossom, is just the ticket. One whiff and it will make you feel like you’re sitting on a tropical beach. Just don’t open your eyes… $31.

The Candle:  Is there a better present for someone than a beautifully scented candle? I’ll probably harp on about this till the day I die, but my pick will always be Ecoya’s French Pear, which mixes pear with a hint of vanilla and clove. $39.95

Under $30

The DIY R&R: If you can’t physically get away, try and get five minutes peace with this French Girl Sea Soak. Infused with a trio of salts (Himalayan, Epsom and Dead Sea salt) the mix works to soften the skin, and relieve aching muscles. $29

The Biccies: We all know it’s the era of personalisation so why not say it with a biscuit, or six. Sidonies Kitchen do the most beautiful limited edition ones that say things like ‘Mum You’re Awesome’ (like we didn’t know already!) and they can even be further personalised by saying who it’s for, or who they’re from. They’re only taking orders until May 4th so order today! $24.95.
