And hide that tired face with these simple steps…
Burning the candle at both ends? Oh, I hear ya! Whether your kids are waking you at the crack of dawn, or work woes have you tossing and turning at night, it can make it near impossible to get some quality shut-eye. And that lack of sleep can be written all over your face the next day. So here’s how to fake looking fresh first thing in the morning, when you feel anything but…
Step one: Hydrate
First things first, you need to rehydrate your skin. The simple act of splashing cold water onto your face will actually work to constrict the blood vessels, instantly making your skin look smoother. Alternatively try a facial mist like Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist, $39, which will give your skin that hydration blast it needs.
Step two: Layer up
Apply serum and moisturisers that specifically works to firm and lift the skin – you don’t have to choose just one. I love REN Keep Young and Beautiful Instant Firming Beauty Shot, $87, because the gel-like serum gives the sensation like it really is pulling my skin up and out. Make sure you pop on a little eye cream too. Although most people use it before bed, one that de-puff’s is actually quite good in the morning too. Try Benefit Cosmetics It’s Potent! Eye Cream, $64. Like it’s name suggests it packs a potent dark circle reducing punch!
Step three: Cover and Correct lightly
One of my all-time favourite products – Mac Strobe Cream, $25 (for 30mls) is the perfect base to luminise even the dullest skin. And although these days it has varying shades – I still think the original is the best. Next opt for lightweight coverage as anything heavy will seep into the creases, instantly ageing you. A BB cream, like Estee Lauder Daywear BB – Beauty Benefit Cream, $86, is so easy to apply with your fingertips and will help to hide your pale pallor. Be sure to dot a bit of concealer under your eyes to hide those dark circles. At the moment I’m loving Bobbi Brown’s Intensive Skin Serum Concealer, $84, because it has a fluidity that allows the product to practically melt into your skin.
Step four: Highlight
I’m a big fan of a highlighter because it’s so easy to apply and gives you an instant glow. Make sure you apply it to the top of your cheekbones, that way it’ll catch the light. Try my ultimate fave, MAC mineralize in soft and gentle, $64.
Step five: Curl
Although it might seem like an unnecessary step – using an eyelash curler will really help you to achieve that wide-awake look because it instantly opens up the eyes. To enhance the effect make sure you use a bit of mascara. Try Bobbi Brown Eye Opening Mascara, $62.
