THE FIVE BEST MATERNITY JEANS OUT NOW

See your pregnancy out in style with my top maternity jean picks…

There comes a time in every pregnant woman’s life when she can no longer do up the button on her favourite pair of  jeans and its suddenly time to move into the maternity sector. It can be a little unnerving especially since jeans have become such a sartorial anchor in our everyday wardrobe. Thankfully these days there are so many offerings out there which look stylish and more importantly – make room for your burgeoning bump. Here are my top five picks…

1. The Staple
Topshop Maternity Black Jamie Jeans, $79.
If, like me, you’re a devout fan of the Topshop’s iconic jamie jean already then you’ll love the maternity version which is cut to the same proportions – albeit with an elasticated waist. Choose under or over the bump, and take advantage of their short or long leg option.

2. The Steal
Kmart maternity jean, $22.
Possibly the most affordable pair on the market, these jeans have a great shape and seem to be made for those with a shorter leg in mind. The only downside is the denim isn’t the softest.

3. The Classic
ASOS Maternity Whitby low rise skinny jeans, $62.39
You know it’s a popular style when most sizes are almost always sold out. What I like best about these is the fact that it actually has a button (even if it’s for decorative purposes only!) and the elasticated waistband goes right up over the bump.

4. The Starter
The Honeymoon Mid Rise, $260.10
Naturally, new mum Khloe Kardashian’s jean rage has a maternity jean offering. While there are quite a few styles to choose from, I’m liking this option with elastic inserts on either side of the waistband. It’s this design which makes it perfect for the early days of pregnancy.

5. The Boyfriend
ASOS Kimmi Shrunken Boyfriend Jeans, $21 (AUS)
Skinny jeans do seem to work really well with a pregnant belly, however some lucky ones can pull of the baggier boyfriend jean (I myself am not one of them!) They may not be as smart as some of the jeans on this list but if extreme comfort is what you’re after for the weekend – then these are your jeans.
