10 BEAUTY MUST-HAVES FOR MUMS…

You’ve got your daily moisturiser sorted… but what else do you need in your beauty arsenal?

There once was a time when my top ten beauty products would have consisted of at least 3 lipsticks (two essential reds and a nude!) My, how priorities change. These days when sleep is at a premium, and your to-do list seems never ending it’s important to have a stash of fail-safe beauty products that can help you get from go to whoa in a matter of minutes. Here are my top 10…

1. A Micellar Water

Need to cleanse your skin and remove makeup in one hit? Then micellar water is what you should have. Using micelles, an ingredient which acts as a magnet to rid your skin of impurities, this concoction will make the end of the day bed-time routine simple.
Try: Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micellar Water

2. A Dry Shampoo

When your hair is looking and feeling less than fresh give it a blast of dry shampoo. It never ceases to amaze me how this product can make your hair look (and smell) like it’s just been washed. Top tip: Keep an eye out for the offerings suited for your hair type. Moroccan Oil does a great one for dark tones which means you won’t look like you’ve just fallen into a pile of talcum powder…
Try: Moroccan Oil Dry Shampoo

3. A Quick Dry Nail Polish

Let me paint you a picture. You’ve just found five uninterrupted minutes so you slap on a slick of nail polish and suddenly your baby wakes up… or dinner needs to be taken out of the oven, or someone is at the front door and your nails are ruined (again!) Sound familiar? To ensure you get polish that’s going to work for you, it’s going to need to be of the quick-dry variety. Of course, shellac will work too but that requires you actually being able to leave the house, which sometimes isn’t possible!
Try: Essie Quick-E Drying Drops for fast drying.

4. A Illuminating Cream

I cannot rave about this product enough. On those days when you don’t have time for any beauty regime, you can just slap it on your face. Trust me, you’ll look luminous! Although a massive fan of the original, their new offerings which come in a selection of pinks are also great to try.
Try: MAC Strobe Cream

5. A Sunscreen

I never used to worry about applying sunscreen before I went outside, but now, as age seems to bring more and more pigmentation to the forefront (literally) I know it’s essential. It’s tough getting a sunscreen that’s small enough to fit in your handbag, concentrated enough that it works for hours, not to mention light and fluid enough to go on smoothly. But guys, I’ve found it!
Try: Cane + Austin Lightweight Sunscreen

6. An Eye Cream

I think we’ve all been through that stage when you’re so tired you think no amount of eye cream could help. However, if you give it a whirl consistently for few weeks,  I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Try: NIOD Fractionated Eye-Contour Concentrate

7. A Saviour Balm

A multi-tasking balm is the ultimate product for a busy mum. It’s perfect for moisturising, nourishing chapped lips, looking after cuticles and soothing minor injuries. It’ll also be gentle enough for that tender skin around your baby’s bottom.
Try: Antipodes Saviour Skin Balm

8. An Overnight mask

Go to sleep and let an overnight mask do all the work for you. Look out for ones that offer optimum hydration so your skin will wake up feeling nourished and plumped.
Try: Lamer Revitilizing Mask (while not technically an overnight mask you can apply it before bed and leave it on!) click here to see my top five overnight face masks to add to your regime.

9. A Concealer

A good concealer is essential – but you need to choose the right one.  As we age I believe the best type of concealers are the ones that are so lightweight they practically melt into your skin, as heavier concealers tend to highlight fine lines.
Try: YSL Touche Eclat

10. An Exfoliator

No time to exfoliate you say? Well, now with this brilliant product by Go-To, it can be done in just a few swipes. Lactic acid helps to remove dead skin cells (the main culprit of dull looking skin) which will help improve your skin’s texture and minimise fine lines (thank god!)
Try: Go-To Exfoliating Swipeys
